Did you know that we offer a free introductory private session to anyone that wants one whether you’re just trying us out or have been with us for a while?
Private training is a great way to work on specific concepts, movements, problem areas and even get help working around injuries (whether they’re recent or preexisting). The lessons are tailored to you rather than the group class curriculum (questions are highly encouraged).
Packages are available to all granite bay jiu-jitsu members regardless of age and are particularly useful prior to competition. They can be purchased here and of course, discounts are given to bigger packages. We include both short and long-term game plans with all packages.

Q: What is your current preferred situation from your back? Yes, scrambling to your feet is a possible answer, though it’s certainly not the answer I’d prefer, I need brutal honesty.

Q: What is your current preferred submission, and from where? List up to five submissions you’ll use on Saturday’s open mat, when you attend. If there is a favorite submission that isn’t currently viable due to a physical limitation or injury, please note it.

This helps us develop an overview of our direction:
We are to work ambidexterity as our primary focus for the next 90 days. Below is our criteria for the next 20 classes.
- Consistent guard attacks utilizing two to three guard configurations that are sustainable.
- I need a few serious pathways with regard to your passing – you need to be able to pull standing and sitting passes off on any guard, regardless of the player if you’re able to get a few things into position (e.g. hands here, knees here, etc).
- Three submissions and their variants that you can get from top and bottom, e.g. north south from the top, guillotine from the bottom; d’arce from top and bottom, armbar from top and bottom.
Now we build out our sequences:
Starting off your back:
Half-guard with tight clamp > prevent grip around the head & attack kimura – finish kimura or sweep (if no) > collar drag to underhook to back (if no) > chickenwing clamp with underhook arm and roll under the leg to side control > side control > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- Pull guard w/ double butterfly hooks > attempt sweep > attempt foot on hip butterfly hook sweep > Reverse De La Riva > Kiss of the Dragon > take back > collar choke/armbar
- > Tripod sweep > knee slide pass > side control > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- > Berimbolo to back > collar choke/armbar
- Pull guard w/ double butterfly hooks > attempt sweep > X-guard > expansion/tripod sweep > leg drag > side control > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar

Starting in closed guard:
Open guard > knee up – knee slide (if no) > stand up > bring hips back down and begin knee slide > orient opponent’s hip to pass knee shield > pass into diagonal lockdown > side control > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- Tozi pass > side control > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- Leg drag > side control > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- Crazy dog pass > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- Back step step pass (with the hip switch) > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
Stuck in the half-guard:
- Hip switch over with a partial back step pass > partial cross-body position with the arm under the head over their hip, gripping their foot and pulling it in > push pull & yank the leg out > cross-body > mount > collar choke/armbar
- > peel their top leg with outside leg and mount OR shoulder roll around the legs & take the back > collar choke/armbar
